How can I get checked for hypertension (high blood pressure) without seeing a doctor?
I looked up in a book what kind of headache I’ve been experiencing based on the symptoms, and it looks like a hypertension headache. It didn’t even sound like any other headache listed. I understand this means high blood pressure, but I was wondering… saving myself a trip to a doctor, how can I diagnose this myself?
I’m thinking I’d have to buy a blood pressure monitor, and take regular readings… totally doable. That would be better than making an appointment, waiting 2 weeks, and paying a co-pay to have him tell me to do that.
What I’m looking for from you is a website giving information on self-diagnosis of hypertension, and treatment options. At what point should I see a doctor? Etc.
Thank you
Can high blood pressure feel like an ear infection?
I went to the doctor today after dealing with an ongoing problem, which I thought was an ear infection, for about 5 months. I have always had cronic ear infections since I was a child, so i figured that I just had a really bad one that wouldnt go away. Well, my doctor checked my ears and said that there was nothing wrong with them, but rather my high blood pressure was causing pressure in my ear that felt like an ear infection. I trust my doctor but this seems a bit strange. Why would it occur in one ear but not the other? My ear pops everytime I open my mouth or swallow and I always have a sloshy feeling inside my head. Has anyone ever been treated for this same problem or does anyone have any information?
Is my blood pressure normal?
I just visited the doctor’s and my blood pressure was a 95/41. My blood pressure has never been that low before. I am 6′3 222 pounds(considerably overweight) and 18 years old.I was looking at a blood pressure chart and it said that the 41 shouldnt be that low. Any thing to be concerned about? I’ve been dieting for over 2 months and have lost over 20 pounds ( I was 245 pounds ). I’ve also noticed that now, whenever I stand up from a sitting position, I get head rushes much more frequently, easily 3-4 times a day.
Labetalol? Anyone else have to take this for high blood pressure?
I’m 26 weeks & just saw my CNM for my checkup today. I was agitated because I had to wait over an hour past my appointment time. The first nurse took my blood pressure & it was high. So she waited 5 minutes & then took it again, and it had gone down quite a bit, but was still borderline. But as soon as the CNM came in & looked at my chart, she was worried about the first reading. So she proceeded to go down the hall & get a prescription for Labetalol from a doctor I never even met (this is a large OB/GYN practice). I really hate taking any meds, I haven’t even taken Tylenol since I found out I was pregnant. Also, I’m not sure I should take it on the advice of a CNM, not a doctor. The doctor who did sign the Rx doesn’t know me, for all I know he didn’t even look at my chart.
What numbers are considered low blood pressure?
I went to the doctor after fainting a couple of weeks ago, and the doctor had my blood pressure checked. I had a blood pressure of 80 over 60. He didn’t say much about it, so I figured I’m fine. But I was talking to one of my friends, and she said that she had a higher blood pressure than I did, and her doctor told her that she has low blood pressure.
So do I have low blood pressure? I need to know what number is considered low blood pressure.
Some more information that may affect the answer:
I am 14 1/2 years old
I weigh around 135 lbs (she probably weighs a little less)
I am male
I am appx. anywhere from 5′6” to 5′10” (my friend is the same height)
What sort of health condition would cause high blood pressure and paralysis of everything under the chin?
My wife’s father just had something happen to him. However there’s a language barrier and she’s having a hard time translating what happened to English. Essentially her father woke up this morning unable to move or feel anything below the head. He had not suffered any trauma and went to be like normal. A doctor has seen him, and apparently his blood pressure was off the charts. He was sent home, and he has regained some feeling/movement in his limbs. I’m saying he should go to the hospital, but she keeps saying the doctor said to wait for Monday. I’m really scratching my head as to what might have happened.
Where can you get information on high blood pressure and high blood sugar?
I have been to the doctor! I want something to read about these conditions!
How is blood pressure read?
I went to the doctor today and she said my blood pressure was 140 over 20. I have looked on charts and now I am just confused by what I read. It seems that over 20 is not possible. Maybe she told me wrong?
I went because I had a bad toothache and my dentist couldn’t get me in there until Monday. I heard that pain in general can cause higher blood pressure. She just told me and didn’t say anything else about it. She didn’t say if it was high or not.

Blood pressure averages?
My bp has been creeping up slightly, my doctor suggested I buy a bp monitor that automatically inflates itself so I can log my readings.
But should I keep track of averages on a daily, weekly or monthly basis?
Do blood pressure averages mean anything or is it just individual readings that count?
